Athletic Background

My dream growing up was to swim at a Division I college, where I could compete at the highest and most competitive level in my sport. After 10 plus years of intense training, early morning practices, and sacrifices I achieved that dream when I became a proud “Terp” at The University of Maryland. I achieved a great deal of success as an athlete, despite ongoing shoulder pain and shoulder injury that required surgery.

Being an athlete was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. I constantly pushed myself to my physical and mental limits that in many ways made me a better person, professional, and athlete. However, my career ending shoulder injury in college led to a surprisingly difficult transition out of sports physically, mentally, and emotionally. This illuminated how essential mental and emotional fitness is for athletes, and how it should be prioritized equally to their physical fitness.

My goal is to integrate the training experiences I’ve had as an athlete and professional to educate, advocate, and empower athletes and those in athletic communities on the importance of mental health in sports. I work to be a change agent who helps foster a culture in sports where people value mental health and see the impact it has on athletes’ achieving peak performance on and off the field.
